The Industrial Design program is based on engineering, follows the development law of design disciplines, is based on the Yangtze River Delta, focuses on the economic development of Shanghai and the improvement of people's quality of life and the demand for creative design, and implements the cultivation of innovative talents by means of the industry-teaching-competition-creation linkage training system.
Training goal
With the trinity of value shaping, knowledge imparting and ability cultivation, the program is based on the socialist core values and Chinese excellent cultural heritage as the main line. Focusing on the fields of equipment and tool manufacturing, intelligent manufacturing, information and home appliances, the program aims to cultivate applied innovative talents with socialist core values, a sense of family and national social responsibility, and a sense of lifelong learning, as well as modern design concepts and literacy, and the ability of innovative research and development and design implementation.
Core curriculum
Major Courses: Modern Engineering Graphics, Design Sketching, Fundamentals of Graphic Design, Rapid Expression of Industrial Products, Digital Design and Manufacturing, Design Semantics and Communication, Human Factors Engineering, Materials and Processes of Industrial Design, Product Innovation Design, Product Improvement Design, and Product System Design.
Main practical training: internships, visits, research, curatorial exhibitions, industry-academia-associated design project practice (design thematic practice), design (innovation and entrepreneurship) competitions, international exchange activities, and graduation design.
Career path
Engage in product development, design and management in product R&D departments of Chinese and foreign enterprises of various types; engage in product planning, development and design in Industrial Design companies and product design companies; engage in industry-related work such as cultural creativity and aesthetic education in a cross-disciplinary and cross-field manner; become freelance designers by starting their own business independently or jointly.
